Noblesville 17-year-old Jovante Day-John Larry has been charged with murder. The Herald Bulletin says Anderson police arrested Larry on September 9 in connection with the fatal shooting of Tomerious Smoots near Sonny Ray’s on Anderson’s Madison Avenue.
The FCA of East Central Indiana’s Fields of Faith event will take place September 30 at Muncie Southside’s football field. Gates open for the free event at 6 p.m., and the evening includes student speakers, worship music and an appearance by Christian recording artist Billy Ballenger.
Knightstown 47-year-old Brian Michael Wells has been charged with dealing meth. The Star Press says police serving a search warrant at a home on South Harrison Street found Wells passed out in his bed. The search produced 28 grams of meth and 170 grams of marijuana.
The Lapel Town Council has voted to remove president Chad Baker. The Herald Bulletin says the decision was made in a special session Monday and based on the council’s residency rule. Baker moved to Edgewood in 2025 after his home was destroyed by a tornado.
Three companies working with FEMA have representatives in Madison County this week to inspect logjams in the area created by last month’s historic floods. The Herald Bulletin says county surveyor Ken Kocinski has requested $3 million for the work.

Jurors have been selected for the murder trials of Indianapolis 41-year-old Randall B. Moon Jr. and Muncie 16-year-old Robert L. Wilson. The case of the December 14 murder of 58-year-old Michael D. Greer, and the 2024 murder of 15-year-old Latajohne Phillips are being dealt with in Delaware County courts.
Artists can apply for the next round of Muncie’s “Box! Box!” project until September 30. The program, presented by the Muncie Arts and Culture Council, turns traffic signal control boxes into artistic installations. Five boxes will be chosen for the transformation this fall.
Memorial Baptist Church will host a Second Harvest Food Bank giveaway tomorrow (Thursday) from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The church is located on Muncie’s South Phillip Drive just off Hoyt Avenue.
The Madison County Shrine Club is hosting a Fashion Show and Bazaar this Saturday, September 19. America’s Hometown Band will perform “The Flute Stand” on September 26 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Minnetrista Farmers Market. The free show will be the last outdoor tent event for the 18-member AHB Central Indiana Flute Choir in 2026.
