34-year-old Maci Marquelle Atkinson denies intentionally striking Lynn Town Marshal Brad Fisher with a stolen van on July 29 in Randolph County. The Star Press says a witness told police the van swerved toward Fisher, who was running in a ditch along U.S. 36, before fatally striking him.
The Montpelier Historical Society will host Rendezvous on the Reserve ’26 on September 18-20 on the former reservation of Myaamia Chief Francois Godfroy. The three-day event invites visitor to experience life as it was more than 200 years ago on La Petite Prairie.
A fatal crash on Saturday, September shortly after 10pm on SR 67 near Chesterfield is being investigated by Madison County Sheriff’s officers. They say a vehicle traveling southbound on 67 near 300E struck a pedestrian walking in the southbound lane. He was identified as 62 year old Peter Fagan – he was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Madison County Coroner. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police say alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
The Madison County Elections Board has tentatively approved 29 voting locations for the November 3 election. The Herald Bulletin says 15 of those locations are in Anderson. Early voting begins October 6 at the Madison County Government Center.

A 41-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were arrested last week in Muncie after police investigated their living conditions at the request of the Department of Child Services. The Star Press says four children living in the home were placed in DCS custody.
Anderson 37-year-old Canasius Evans was arrested last week in connection with a Wednesday night robbery on Mounds Road. The Herald Bulletin says Evans was arrested Thursday at a hotel on Broadway.

Here’s what happened Saturday during a several hour standoff in the 300 block of West Washington Street – He allegedly threatened to kill his mother and adult daughter. Muncie’s Christopher Tyrone Kirkland, 47, was being held without bond in the Delaware County Jail on Saturday evening, on suspicion of intimidation with a deadly weapon, domestic battery on an endangered adult and interference with the reporting of a crime. Deputy chief with the Muncie Police Department Melissa Criswell told the Star Press it started shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
The weekend was a good time to celebrate our first responders, as the nation recognized the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on America. But Matt Shahnavaz, the father of fallen Elwood police officer Noah Shahnavaz, says these heroes should be honored daily.
Muncie police and firefighters will take part in a “bicycle rodeo” tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Delaware County Health Department (location change) from 5 to 7 p.m. The event aims to teach children about bicycle and helmet safety, and free helmets will be distributed while supplies last. The event also includes games, giveaways and an obstacle course.
The Madison County Plan Commission delayed a voted last week on a pair of planned battery storage facilities in Adams Township. The Herald Bulletin says the systems operator plans for a $500 million investment in Madison County, with the sites to open in 2028 and 2031.
Ball State announced last week men’s volleyball head coach Mike Iandolo has signed a contract extension. Iandolo led the Cardinals to MIVA regular season and tournament titles, making him the fourth Ball State coach to win both titles in his first full season.
