MUNCIE, IN—WaTasha Barnes Griffin, a member of the Muncie Community School Board of Trustees and president and CEO of YWCA Central Indiana, will outline what she learned at the National School Board Association conference and share plans for the relocation of the YWCA facilities at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in the community room of the YWCA, 310 E. Charles St.
The meeting, which is free and open to the public, is being sponsored by the American Association of University Women Muncie Branch.
Parking is available on the east side of the YWCA. A ramp is located in this area also for those who want to avoid steps. Parking also is available on the street.
The title of Griffin’s presentation is “Beyond the Classroom: The Connection Between Education, Housing, and Community.”
Griffin has more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit management, and in addition to her role as a Muncie Community Schools board member, is a member of the Muncie Housing Authority Board and AAUW Muncie Branch, serves on the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s Continuum of Care Governance Committee and is a member of the Women in Business Unlimited board of directors.
For how she makes a difference in the Muncie community and East Central Indiana, Griffin’s honors include an NAACP Community Service Award, Athena International Leadership Award, Muncie Rotary VIVA Award and Vivian V. Conley Recognition Award.
Griffin is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University and is working toward a doctoral degree at Ball State University.
The American Association of University Women is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1881 by 17 college women. The Muncie Branch of AAUW was founded in 1925 by 72 women, including Elizabeth Ball.
Today AAUW advances gender equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., it encourages local branches to advocate for laws that promote equitable education in public schools and in colleges and universities, civil rights, equal pay, paid family leave and fair workplace practices.
AAUW and its branches never support or oppose political parties or candidates. Instead, it takes positions on issues that affect people living in the United States.
