Today in 2023, Muncie residents gathered for candlelight and prayer vigils following the mass shooting at a southeast-side block party that left one person dead and nearly 20 others injured. Community members, clergy, and local leaders came together to honor the victims, support grieving families, and call for an end to violence. The gatherings showcased the city’s “Muncie Strong” spirit, reminding residents that even in its darkest moments, the community stands united.

Planners with the Madison County Council recently held an open house at the Anderson Public Library to allow public input on their 20-year regional transportation plan. The Herald Bulletin says the plan infrastructure projects and other programs and policies.
McDonald’s Fried Apple Pie returned to the menu June 23 in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The recipe dates back to the 1960s when the pie was introduced in East Tennessee locations. The pies are available at participating stores while supplies last.
Yesterday in Muncie at 10:33 a.m., emergency personnel were called about a bank robbery in progress at First Merchants Bank on south Madison Street. Suspect was detained and the investigation is ongoing. Bank officials notified us in a release that they were closed for the remainder of the day, and protocols were followed.
Madison County deputy prosecutor Dan Kopp has earned the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force’s Prosecutor of the Year Award. The Herald Bulletin says Kopp was crucial in a recent case that resulted in a 91-year prison sentence for an offender.
Second Harvest Food Bank has announced a Summer Match program running through the end of August with support from the Pacers Foundation. Every dollar donated during the campaign will be matched, doubling the impact in the eight East Central Indiana counties Second Harvest serves.

Pendleton Heights senior Maddie Marsh will represent the United States at the U20 Pan-American Championships beginning Thursday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Marsh is a three-time state champion, two-time All-American and one-time national champion.
Ball State Sports Link student Nate Locker and senior lecturer Chris Flook won Regional Emmy Awards recently at the NATS Central Great Lakes ceremony in Cleveland. It was the ninth Emmy win for Sports Link students and Flook’s ninth individual Emmy Award.
