The Friday 5 p.m. estimate from AEP was restoration by 11 p.m. for most Muncie area customers, as crews struggle with storm damage from Thursday night in Indiana. What follows is the Friday 5 p.m. update from AEP.
• As of 5:00 p.m. approximately 31,200 customers are without power, down from a peak of
about 62,000.
• As our crews have worked throughout the day and will continue to work over night to assess damage and restore power, we have established the following Estimated
Restoration Times which reflect when most customers will be restored, though many will receive power before then.
Friday, 11 PM
• Benton Harbor
• Buchanan
• Elkhart **Hwy 33 corridor and north to County Road 18
• Fort Wayne
• Muncie/Marion
Saturday, 6 PM
• Three Rivers
Saturday, 11 PM
• Elkhart **customers who were not restored on Friday evening
SITUATION:
With half of impacted customers now restored, approximately 1,139 workers are continuing to perform
repairs and assessments as quickly and safely as possible, including over 710 workers from surrounding
utilities. Approximately 875 additional workers will soon arrive in the area to assist with restoration efforts. I&M crews in the northern parts of our service territory
are encountering massive amounts of tree damage, causing access issues and making it difficult to complete the assessments that are needed to make repairs.
Drones and helicopters are being used to assess damage in areas where ground access is difficult.
CAN YOU RECEIVE POWER?
Now’s the time to check whether your home can safely receive power. If your service entrance (the part you own) is damaged, I&M can’t reconnect power until a licensed
electrician makes repairs. You can learn more about homeowner and I&M responsibilities here. If crews see damage that prevents I&M from restoring power to specific homes or businesses, we will call customers directly or leave a door hanger.
