Multi-county chase after gunshot wound found Friday. According to a release from the Montpelier Police Department, around 5 p.m. on June 12, an officer responded to the 300 block of East Brice Street on a report of a person shot – they found a 46-year-old man suffering from “multiple” gunshot wounds. The officer, along with bystanders and first responders began administering life-saving measures until EMS arrived. Police said the victim was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital for advanced medical treatment. The suspect vehicle was described as a white Dodge Charger with a black hood and was reportedly seen leaving the scene of the crime shortly after the shooting. While traveling to assist with the run, an officer with the Hartford City Police Department spotted the suspect vehicle and attempted to pull it over. However, the driver allegedly refused to stop and instead led officers on a pursuit across Blackford, Grant and Delaware Counties before ending on Wheeling Pike in Delaware County. The driver, identified as a 28-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital for evaluation before being booked at the Blackford County Security Center.
Police said the man now faces the following charges:
Operating while intoxicated
Possession/use of a legend drug
Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
Resisting law enforcement
Aggravated battery
Attempted murder
The Blackford County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.
