Anderson mayor Thomas Broderick Jr. tells The Herald Bulletin 417 applications for the city’s one-time $1,000 flood relief payments already have been approved. The city plans to make payments to 600 households. Applications remain available at the City Building daily from 8 a.m to 4 p.m.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security has opened a Disaster Recovery Center at the Delaware County Fairgrounds through Saturday. The Center is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. No appointment necessary.

More than 350 entries were submitted from radio and television stations across Indiana, and now the finalists have been announced for the Indiana Broadcasters Association’s 2026 Spectrum Awards. Woof Boom Radio group honored as 7 Finalists. The awards honor outstanding achievement in broadcasting across the state and will be presented during a special celebration on October 27th at The Cabaret in downtown Indianapolis. This year’s event also coincides with the nation’s observance of America’s 250th anniversary. See the list on our Local News Page.
With judging now complete, finalists have been selected in each category, and overall performance will determine the 2026 Radio and Television Stations of the Year.
Several Woof Boom Radio Indiana broadcasters earned recognition.
WMUN Radio received multiple finalist nominations, including Best Radio Newscast anchored by Steve Lindell, Radio Market 2 (Lindell has won first place in the previous two years). Other finalists in the category are WQLK-FM’s Kicks 96 News and WVUB-FM News.
WMUN was also recognized in Best Radio Election Coverage for its “Meet The Candidates” series Hosted by Steve Lindell, covering the May 2026 primary election (Lindell was a Finalist in this category last year).
Sports coverage brought additional honors for WMUN’s Kurt Darling for “Delta vs. Wapahani Basketball” – a finalist for Best Radio Local Sports Play-by-Play Coverage, competing against entries from WITZ-FM and WWZN-AM. That same broadcast also earned a finalist spot in the new category of Best Radio Local Sports Play-by-Play Video Stream, where it joins WHBU’s Zach Johnson for “Frankton vs. Lapel Basketball” as the Market 2 finalists.
In the category of Best Radio Broadcast Personality or Team, Radio Market 2, “Start Your Day With Jay” on WERK-FM was named a finalist alongside programs from WKOA-FM and WQLK-FM (Garrison won this award the two previous years).

The Anderson Board of Public Works has set September 22 as the date to accept bids for the replacement of curbs and sidewalks in several neighborhoods. The Herald Bulletin says this includes projects on Delaware Street, Short Street and Ohio Avenue.
Muncie 22-year-old Devin Michael Sheets has been arrested after his infant daughter nearly drowned in a bathtub. The Star Press says Sheets displayed erratic behavior and slurred his speech in meeting with officers. He has 11 pending against him from unrelated cases filed in October.

Madison Circuit Court Division 3 has denied a request from Carl Roy Webb Boards II’s court-appointed attorneys to withdraw from the capital murder case. The Herald Bulletin says Judge Andrew Hopper also ruled Boards competent to stand trail for the 2022 murder of former Elwood police officer Noah Shahnavaz. The trail is slated to begin on February 24.
Ball State has won EAB’s 2026 Technology Pioneer Award for its integration of EAB Navigate360 with Canvas. The award annually recognizes innovative use of technology to strengthen student success and provide students with more coordinated and proactive support.
