The idea of a community center for the south side of Muncie is getting closer to reality, but the process has been far from simple. Since 2006, no such gathering place has been available, but Mayor Dan Ridenour has promised $500,000 from the mayor-controlled EDIT fund to rehab the former Industry United Methodist Church on Mock Avenue in Muncie, after that building was agreed upon by a committee which Ridenour says was set up by an ordinance introduced in 2025 by Councilpersons Mason and McIntosh which added other neighborhoods to the scope of the search. There was only one “no” vote – by committee member Muncie City Councilman William McIntosh. Mayor Ridenour told us that the function of the group was to help recommend, not to provide final approval. The Mayor says the consensus of that group provides the best option to move forward and fulfill a promise made his predecessors, and by him.
New Castle 43-year-old Tyrone Christian Dausch has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to attack another man with a hatchet. The Star Press says Dausch charged at a 55-year-old man riding a bike on July 28, struck the handlebars and narrowly missed the man’s fingers.
A proposed battery storage facility in Adams Township has hit another hurdle. The Herald Bulletin says the Madison County Technical Review Committee is not in favor of the proposal. Jupiter Power is considering a $500 million investment with sites to open in 2028 and 2031.
Elwood AD Ryan Vanskyock is asking for help to save the Panthers’ upcoming football season. The team had just 12 players at its first practice Monday, with three additional players committed to play. Elwood needs a minimum of six more players by the end of the week to save the season.
More than 300 students studying to become teachers received the Next Generation Hoosiers Educators Scholarship. Six of those students were from Delaware County high schools. The scholarships are worth up to $10,000 per year. Read more at Muncie Journal.com.
Accelerate Indiana Municipalities held a presentation Monday attended by several Madison County local community and county government leaders. The Herald Bulletin says the meeting was about the future of local option income tax rate in light of the property tax changes.
INDOT plans to install a four-way stop at U.S. 35 and Delaware County Road 300 South, according to Delaware County Commissioners. The work is expected to begin by Thursday, and the ultimate plan is to install a roundabout at that location.
