Muncie mayor Dan Ridenour announced on social media this week that the former Industry Methodist Church on Mock Avenue will be transformed into a community center. The Star Press says city council members expressed continued support for a community center in the Industry neighborhood on June 1.

Huge weekend in Muncie, with weather impacts possible – today is preferred set up day for the Muncie Chapter of the Indiana Black Expo’s Summer Celebration, with a weekend of community events planned from Friday through Sunday (July 31 through August 2). We’ve reached out to organizers to loop us in on any event changes with possible rain and more – when they tell us, we’ll tell you! The Annual Parade on Saturday (August 1), with the parade lineup beginning at 10:00 a.m. at 905 S. Walnut Street in Muncie, as participants and spectators gather to celebrate culture, community, and local pride. The festivities will continue at Heekin Park on Saturday and Sunday, August 1 and 2. Organizers say visitors can enjoy community booths, food giveaways, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to connect with local organizations and businesses. Chapter booths will also be open throughout the weekend, beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday, giving attendees plenty of chances to learn more about the Indiana Black Expo and its community initiatives. The Muncie Chapter says the event is designed to bring residents together for a weekend of fellowship, entertainment, and community engagement.
A wrongful death lawsuit filed by Allison Reynolds, the widow of Delaware County Sheriff’s Cpl. Blake Reynolds, has been settled out of court. The Star Press says both semi drivers involved in the crash and their Allen County employers were named in the suit.
The Heartland Scholar House helps single parents complete their secondary education. Executive director Briana Price shared a story about a mom whose identity was stolen, causing concern over her future in the program. Heartland donors made the difference
Anderson 25-year-old Jeremy Borden has been sentenced to 10 years after being convicted of child exploitation. The Herald Bulletin says Borden will serve six years in prison, three years on probation and one year on sanctions.
More now, on the tragedy this week in Randolph County – Lynn Town Marshal Bradley Fisher positioned himself ahead of a pursuit Wednesday morning in an attempt to deploy a tire deflation device, the suspect vehicle struck Marshal Fisher, continued eastbound, lost control and struck a dump truck, bringing the pursuit to an end. The 27-year veteran with the Lynn Police Department was transported to the Ascension St. Vincent Randolph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the van, identified as Maci Marquelle Atkinson, 34, of Winchester was taken into custody at the scene and transported to Ascension St. Vincent Randolph Hospital for treatment. After being treated and released, Atkinson was transported to the Randolph County Jail, where she is currently being held on the Felony warrant. Additional criminal charges are expected pending the outcome of the Indiana State Police investigation.

The Downtown Renewal: Creative Corridor and Connections project has received a $4 million grant from the READI 2.0 Arts and Culture Award. The grant is part of a $65 million statewide investment by Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Indiana Arts Commission and Lilly Endowments.
The Anderson Plan Commission has approved a plat for a $35 million housing development. The Herald Bulletin says Redwood USA is planning to build 160 apartments on 26.5 acres at the intersection Rangeline and Lindberg roads.7
