Randolph County, IN – The Randolph County Sheriff’s Department has requested the Indiana State Police conduct an investigation into a pursuit that ended in the death of the Lynn Town Marshal.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 8:30 a.m., a Randolph County Sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle that matched the description of a reported stolen vehicle in the area of County Road 400 W and County Road 50 S. The deputy also identified the driver as an individual who had active felony warrants.
The deputy activated emergency lights in an attempt to initiate a high-risk traffic stop. The driver fled from the deputy, leading deputies on a pursuit that ended up eastbound on US 36 approaching the town of Lynn.
As the pursuit approached Lynn, the Lynn Town Marshal Bradley Fisher positioned himself ahead of the pursuit in an attempt to deploy a tire deflation device to safely bring the pursuit to an end. During the attempt to deploy the deflation device, the suspect vehicle struck Marshal Fisher.
The suspect vehicle continued eastbound after the collision before the driver lost control and struck a dump truck, bringing the pursuit to an end.
Lynn Town Marshal Bradley Fisher, a 27-year veteran with the Lynn Police Department was transported to the Ascension St. Vincent Randolph Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained from the collision.
The driver of the van, identified as Maci Marquelle Atkinson, 34, of Winchester was taken into custody at the scene and transported to Ascension St. Vincent Randolph Hospital for treatment. After being treated and released, Atkinson was transported to the Randolph County Jail, where she is currently being held on the Felony warrant. Additional criminal charges are expected pending the outcome of the Indiana State Police investigation.
The Indiana State Police was assisted at the scene by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, Winchester Police Department, Lynn Volunteer Fire Department, and Randolph County EMS.
The investigation remains active. No further information will be released at this time.
All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Blackford 55-year-old Dede R. Bisel has been sentenced to 17½ years in prison after pleading guilty to dealing meth. The Star Press says Bisel was living in Salamonia in Jay County when she was charged in March 2023. She was convicted in Jay County Circuit Court.
Markleville 29-year-old Cheyanna Closser suffered critical injuries Tuesday when her Chevy Cruze was struck by a semi at the intersection of State Roads 38 and 109 near Markleville. The Herald Bulletin says 30-year-old Damir Rasuli, of Brooklyn, New York, was the semi driver.

MuncieArts is continuing its fund-raising efforts to transform 19 traffic control boxes along State Road 32 in art installations. The goal is to raise $19,000 which would be matched by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Places program. Deadline is Sept. 24.
