Anderson High School’s Rube Goldberg Machine Team is taking on the world. Again. Coach David Perrel told the “Anderson Journal” morning show after winning the regional title at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the team will compete in the Rube Goldberg Institute’s virtual world championship, with the finals streaming the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
It’s the third straight year AHS will compete on the world stage.
A Muncie mother has offered a plea agreement in a neglect case dating to December 2021. The Star Press says 25-year-old Faith L. Sharrock agreed to plead guilty in exchange for a 2,057-day sentence, that will be credited as time served for good behavior, and three other neglect charges would be dropped.
The Madison County Alliance will hold a welcome reception for new CEO Marissa Skaggs this Wednesday (April 29) at the Flagship Enterprise Center from 4 to 6 p.m. Register to attend at the Alliance’s business website.
The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive today (Friday) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hoosier Park in Anderson. A blood drive also is planned at Shenandoah High School in Middletown from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This coming Thursday (April 30).
A Gaston woman has reached a plea agreement following a 2024 fatal accident in Madison County. The Herald Bulletin says 22-year-old Adriana M. Croy received a four-year sentence with three years in prison. Croy failed to stop at the intersection of County Road 500 East and State Road 28, causing an accident that killed Judy Gushwa and left Lewis Gushwa in need of 24-hour care for weeks.
Madison County has received more than $645,000 from FEMA to repair damage resulting from the April 2025 tornadoes. The Herald Bulletin says Anderson officials submitted more than $2.5 million in costs from the storms but had received only $105,598 as of April 14.

Ball State men’s volleyball will play Loyola Chicago at 6 p.m. Tomorrow (Saturday) at Worthen Arena for the MIVA championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Ball State has reached its $350 million goal in its “Our Call to Beneficence” fundraising campaign. The campaign began in 2023 and will continue through June 30, 2027. Opportunities remain to fund student scholarships, academic programs and faculty innovation.
The State Board of Accounts has identified the two Muncie Parks and Recreation Department employees fired during a theft investigation. The Star Press says former program director George W. Foley Jr. and department assistant Nikki Eckerson are accused of stealing more than $20,000 in city money, with Foley allegedly accounting for nearly $15,000 of that total.
Applications are now being accepted for businesses and other local organizations interested in participating in Anderson’s Independence Day Parade. This year’s parade will take place Saturday, July 4. Interested parties should apply at City of Anderson.com by June 24.
Muncie’s 2026 Arbor Day celebration and free tree giveaway will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Minnetrista Museum & Gardens. The event will feature free saplings, planting demonstrations and family activities.
