He estimated the athletic department took in more than $470,000 in donations, about $90,000 more than 2025. At a meeting Friday morning covered exclusively by WMUN Radio news, President Geoffrey Mearns said the total pledged that day was just under $1.5 million, with 400 plus current students, and 900 plus faculty and staff some of the participants.
Muncie Community Schools CEO Chuck Reynolds told the Ball State Daily News the new state property tax law could cost the district up to $500,000 this year, and the toll could be as much as $3.5 million in 2029.
The Indiana Financing Authority awarded a $12 million grant to the city of Anderson last week for its water infrastructure project. The Herald Bulletin says the grant was one of four given to communities across the state totaling $68 million.
The six-year sentence of a New Castle man for repeated misconduct with a 14-year-old girl has been upheld by the Indiana Court of Appeals. The Star Press says 59-year-old Charles William South Jr. was arrested in March 2025 after being found in a garage with the girl. Molestation charges with the same girl led to a 16-year sentence for South in June 2024 before he bonded out.

The death of Fishers teen Hailey Buzbee reignited concerns about the dangers of social media to children. Madison County deputy prosecutor Andrew Hanna expounded on some of those concerns during an appearance on “Anderson Talks.”
Ball State has won the 2026 National Speech Championship, and Spencer Coile has been named the Coach of the Year. It’s the second national crown for the speech team. The Cardinals also were crowned national champions in 2019.

Accusations of child molestation have led to the arrest of an Indianapolis man in Muncie. The Star Press says 35-year-old Joseph Isaiah Campbell twice failed to appear for scheduled meetings about the accusations at Muncie City Hall last month. He’s suspected of molesting one child in their early teens and a pre-teen child whose mother was a friend of Campbell.
From the Muncie Did You Know department: the Oasis bar hosts a Gov. Davis Blues Jam every Thursday night. The Muncie Public Library Archives says Davis moved to Muncie from Chicago in 1977, and passed away in 2021.
